The indian Navy has conducted a mega war exercise in the indian Ocean with several warships, submarines, and more than 35 aircraft and two aircraft carriers. It is considered a decisive operation to expand maritime capabilities in the region from the Straits of Malacca to the Persian Gulf. Two combat groups (CPGs) led by indian Navy-owned INS vikramaditya and indigenously built INS Vikrant have conducted the mega exercise for the first time. Capable of moving 400 to 500 nautical miles per day, the CPG is a floating air base with fighter jets and helicopters.
China is also reportedly planning to use CPGs in the indian Ocean region in the near future. china already owns two CPGs, Liaoning and Shandong. A third 80,000-tonne CPG is under construction. china is reportedly planning to induct a total of 10 CPGs into its military. Recently, Sukhoi and Rafale fighter jets of the indian air Force have been patrolling the indian Ocean for several hours. Following this, the indian Navy is also engaged in the mega war exercise which is considered significant.
