Largest IMF borrower List..!? Pakistan in which list..!?
Pakistan, which is in dire economic straits, continues to advance in the list of countries that borrow the most from the international Monetary Fund. Debt-ridden pakistan will take on US$3 billion in new loans over the next nine months under a stand-by arrangement reached with the global lender the IMF, moving up one place to fourth in the international Fund's list of top borrowers. Under a stand-by arrangement with the Washington-based international Monetary Fund last Thursday, it will receive another US$3 billion over the next nine months. Then, pakistan will move to the fourth position in this list. The deal, which still needs to be approved by the IMF's board, will be available eight months later. In terms of IMF borrowing, argentina ranks first with $46 billion, egypt second with $18 billion, ukraine third with $12.2 billion, ecuador fourth with $8.2 billion, and pakistan $7.4 billion. With USD 10.4 billion in IMF loans, pakistan will overtake ecuador to become the world's fourth largest borrower from the international Monetary Fund.
Pakistan's economy has been in a state of free fall for the past several years and the poor people are facing enormous pressure due to inflation.
