The claims of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are still going on - Krishna Water Dispute

The krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) has its deadline extended by the central government on saturday till march 31, 2024. An order to this effect has been issued by the Jal shakti Ministry. According to a representative of the Irrigation Department, the Centre has decided to extend the deadline because the decision about the settlement of the water issue has not yet been made.

In actuality, the tribunal's decision must be made public by august 1 of this year. The insider said, "The Centre has decided to extend the deadline of the tribunal because the claims of telangana and andhra pradesh are still pending and the judgement is likely to take longer." andhra pradesh and telangana are objecting to the construction of dams and other hydroelectric projects by the upper riparian states of maharashtra and karnataka because they anticipate that the projects will affect their utilisation of water based on the customary flows in the krishna River.

This dispute relates to the krishna river and the use of its water. Cauvery, Narmada, and other instances are a few additional places where this issue still exists. The majority of the time, the conflicts are still open. Only a few disagreements have been resolved peacefully, like as the Chambal Valley project, when two state governments decided to forgo charging the project any compensation for the government property that would be drowned in their respective regions.
