Tourism minister K. Ramachandran said that 18 houses have been damaged in the Nilgiris district due to the southwest monsoon. A disaster management study meeting with government department officials regarding monsoon rains was held yesterday at Kotakshiar's office in Kudalur, Nilgiris district. Tourism minister K. Later, the minister told the press that: A review meeting was held with the officials of various departments in Nilgiri district regarding facing the South-West Monsoon. City council leaders and representatives of local bodies were also present. As precautions were taken before the rains started, there was no major damage.
Also, zonal officers have been appointed at the level of Deputy collector in 6 circles and monitoring work is being carried out. 42 Zonal Committees have been formed to monitor 283 areas which are likely to be more affected during monsoons and these teams are monitoring round the clock.
In case of rain and natural calamities, the public can contact the district Emergency Control Room on the toll free numbers 1077 and 0423 – 2450034, 2450035. It is set up to immediately go to the affected area and engage in rescue operations. 3,600 first responders are ready. 200 Aptamitra volunteers have been trained.
Due to southwest monsoon, 18 houses have been damaged in Nilgiris district since june 1 till date. They have been given the necessary relief. Landslides occurred at 4 places and other damages occurred at 3 places. Fixed immediately. This is what he said.
