K Chandrashekar Rao, the chief minister of Telangana, has given the municipal government the go-ahead to move the metro project in Old City forward, allaying fears over the project that has been in limbo for a while. In a tweet, state IT minister K T Rama Rao announced that cm kcr has given the chairman of L&T, the company in charge of carrying out the metro rail project, instructions to speed up the protracted work.
Residents of Old City have been calling for the extension of the hyderabad Metro line to the region for a long time. Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of the All india Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has brought up the subject in multiple public addresses in recent months, among other political party leaders. Owaisi also praised the choice on social media, noting how long residents of Old City had been waiting for transit connections.
This would undoubtedly benefit the residents of Old City and increase tourists, he added. Last month, kcr made two different addresses in which he pledged to extend the metro to patancheru and Kandakur. The state government announced the funding of Rs 500 crore for the expansion of metro train services to the Old City in the state budget for 2023–24. Leaders of several parties have also claimed that the AIMIM party was to blame for the delay in the metro line's extension to Old City, despite being the issue's front-runner.
