Telangana’s Pochampally Ikat is PM Modi’s gift to Brigitte Macron
The Pochampally Ikat sari that prime minister Narendra Modi gave to Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, in a sandalwood box, was a nod to telangana during his visit to France. Macron received a sitar replica made entirely of pure sandalwood from Modi, while the First Lady received an Ikat sari from Pochampally. According to agency sources, the Pochampally silk ikat fabric, which has its roots in the telangana town of Pochampally, is a mesmerising monument to India's rich textile tradition.
According to authorities, the foundation marble comes from Makrana, a Rajasthani village known for its high-quality marble. Yael Braun-Pivet, the head of the French National Assembly, received a hand-knit silk Kashmiri carpet from the PM, while Gerard Larcher, the head of the French Senate, received the hand-carved elephant Ambavari made of sandalwood.
