The rising prices of tomatoes have spoiled the budget of middle-class kitchens in the country. Amid hue and cry over tomato prices, Union minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ashwani Kumar Choubey said that the prices of tomatoes are coming down. Tomato prices will fall further in the coming times. The government of india is doing important work to provide relief to the consumers. He said that the effect of the government's measures is also visible.
Talking to the media, Union minister of State ashwini Choubey said that there has been a huge fall in the prices of tomatoes in the markets. Other tomato items are regularly reviewed at the ministry level daily. The government is also keeping a close watch on the prices of tomatoes. Choubey told that the prices of tomatoes were skyrocketing in many parts of the country. The government identified such places and then tomatoes are now being sold there at Rs.90 per kg. Due to the initiative of the government, there has been a reduction in wholesale prices, due to which now the retail prices have also come down. ashwini Choubey said that the price of tomatoes is now around Rs.80.
The decision to sell tomatoes at Rs 80 per kg
The Union minister said that after re-assessing the situation at more than 500 points across the country, it has been decided to sell tomatoes at Rs.80 (80) per kg from Sunday, July 16, 2023. Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Arrah are being sold through NAFED and NCCF. It will be expanded to more cities from monday based on the prevailing market prices at such locations. On July 12, tomato at the national level was Rs 111.71 per kg.
