The motive behind strengthening the NDA
The situation will be different in 2024 as compared to the last lok sabha elections. Compared to 2014, BJP's victory in 2019 was even bigger. As such, bjp was contesting elections under nda, but in both the elections, bjp got majority due to its own strength. In the 2014 lok sabha elections, bjp got 10 seats more than majority i.e. 282 seats on its own. This was the first time for bjp, when it got majority on its own at the center. It was also historic in the sense that after 1984 i.e. after 3 decades, a party had done the feat of getting a clear majority on its strength. Talking about nda, in 2014 the victory figure reached 336 out of 543 seats.
Will bjp be able to repeat the performance of 2019?
While in the 2019 lok sabha elections, bjp went one step further. He crossed the 300 mark for the first time. bjp won 303 seats. Its vote share also registered a huge jump as compared to 2014. In 2014, bjp got 31% votes, which increased by 6.36% to 37.36% in 2019. If we talk about nda in 2019, then this alliance got 353 seats in its account.
If we look at these two elections, bjp managed to increase its 21 seats in 2019, while the nda alliance led by it increased only 17 seats. These figures show that in 2019, BJP's performance showed more improvement than other nda parties. narendra modi became the prime minister for the second time on 30 May 2019.
