Four-time ‘Mr. India’ Ashish Sakharkar passes away at 43
Ashish Sakharkar, a well-known bodybuilder, four-time Mr. india champion, and silver and bronze medalist in the Mr. Universe competition, died late last night following a protracted illness, according to officials in this city. Confirming the situation, Sakharkar, 43, a Parel resident, was suffering from some health concerns and had been admitted to a hospital in south mumbai a week ago, according to indian Body Builders Federation General Secretary (Miss) Hiral Sheth.
She stated that Sakharkar, an 80-Kg bodybuilder who received the Shiv Chhatrapati Award from the maharashtra government, had won numerous national and international competitions. Sakharkar, who is survived by his wife and son, will be given his final rites this evening. The specifics are not yet known. Sakharkar, who brought renown to the nation and whose departure inflicted an irreparable loss to the body-building community, was mourned by chief minister Eknath Shinde.
Aditya Thackeray, the head of the shiv sena (UBT), expressed his sorrow at Sakharkar's passing and his sympathies to his family. His devoted followers expressed their sorrow on social media, with some claiming that Sakharkar's passing marked the end of an era for the national sport of bodybuilding.
