Opposition folds for Manipur debate..!?


The proceedings of both Houses were adjourned for the second consecutive day on friday without any discussion as the opposition created a ruckus in parliament by demanding prime minister Narendra Modi stated the racial violence and nude parade of women in Manipur. friday also adjourned without any discussion.

After the scene of the nude procession of women went viral on Wednesday, the opposition protested against the incident during the first day of the Monsoon session of the parliament which began on Thursday. The result was adjournment without any discussion. On friday also, the opposition parties staged a dharna in the wells of the two houses, demanding that the prime minister should give a personal statement about the Manipur incident in both Houses and cancel all other proceedings and discuss only the issue of Manipur at length. At this time they held posters and shouted slogans against the government. Although the government announced that they are ready to discuss the issue of Manipur, the leaders of both Houses adjourned the proceedings to monday due to the opposition's sit-in.



Congress, DMK and Left parties started a sit-in against the government and shouted slogans as the proceedings in the lok sabha began on Friday. The sit-in did not stop even though the proceedings were postponed twice. Due to the same situation in the rajya sabha, proceedings were adjourned. Rajnath Singh, deputy leader of the ruling party and defense minister, who stated the government's stand on this issue in the lok sabha, said, 'We want a discussion about Manipur. This is what we said in the all-party meeting. prime minister Modi himself has said that the incident in Manipur has made the entire country dizzy. However, the opposition is making unnecessary noise and making sure that the proceedings do not take place. He said that the opposition should take this issue seriously.



Why the crisis in Parliament?


The opposition is demanding a discussion on Manipur under Rule 267. But the government is saying that they are ready to discuss under Rule 176. In case of discussion under Rule 267, the Chairman of the rajya sabha can cancel all the pre-determined proceedings and allow the discussion of the same issue. But if 176 are discussed then maximum of two and half hours can be discussed about a specific topic. The opposition is demanding to discuss the entire issue of Manipur and the government is not agreeing to it, creating a crisis.
