Telangana Hyderabad - Charminar to be closed on Saturday

In light of Muharram on July 29, the Director-General of the Archaeological survey of india announced in a statement on thursday that charminar will be closed to tourists and the general public on Saturday. The announcement reads, "According to the request of the Assistant Commissioner of Police, charminar Division, hyderabad, the Centrally Protected Monument, charminar, hyderabad, will remain closed for public viewing on July 29, 2023, and the online sale of tickets will not be functional."

On saturday, thousands of Shia Muslims will participate in the mourning march, a 400-year-old custom, to commemorate Imam Hussain's martyrdom. The monument will be passed by the procession. The charminar landmark will be off-limits to the general public on saturday due to the Muharram procession, according to the hyderabad office of the Archaeological survey of India. The choice was made in response to a request from the hyderabad police. Online ticket sales are also halted for the day.

As the start of the Islamic New Year, Muharram is one of the most important holidays observed by the Muslim population in India. The second holiest of the four sacred months of a year in Islam, after Ramadan, it is the first month of the Islamic calendar. Celebrations for Muharram 2023 will begin following the new moon's appearance on the last day of the Islamic calendar and run for 10 days. For several Muslim sects, the Day of Ashura, or the tenth day of Muharram, is significant for a variety of reasons. The 10th day of Muharram will fall on saturday, July 29, 2023.
