Archbishop Oswald Cardinal statement – Manipur violence....
Manipur has been burning in the fire of caste violence since May 3. Meanwhile, an attempt was also made to give it the color of a religious struggle. Archbishop Oswald Cardinal Gracias of mumbai has termed such things as baseless. He has said that the Manipur violence is not a religious but an ethnic crisis. The Church should also come forward for peace. In his message, Cardinal Gracias said, "There have been attempts to give a religious color to what is happening in Manipur, but this is not a religious conflict. It is a tribal conflict. Two tribes that have historically been hostile to each other." Have been too hostile one-on-one."
Gracias said that violence has erupted because of some legislation. Churches have been vandalised, but temples have also been destroyed. We cannot do anything that will make the situation worse. Efforts for harmony and peace must continue. The Church should also come forward for this.
