Telangana CM KCR flags off 466 emergency vehicles

At People's Plaza in this city on Tuesday, chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao unveiled a fleet of 466 brand-new cars, including "108" emergency vehicles, "102" Amma Vodi vehicles, and free hearse vehicles. Soon after their debut, the cars were distributed to all the districts, guaranteeing that each category has at least one new vehicle with modern amenities.

Among them, 204 are "108" ambulances, 228 are Amma Vodi transport vehicles, and 34 are hearses that will offer specialist services for bringing the dead's remains back to their hometowns without charge. The '108' emergency fleet now consists of 426 vehicles, out of which 175 are being replaced by new ones and 29 are being added on new routes for ambulances. The '108' emergency services fleet will include 455 vehicles in total. 228 of the 300 Amma Vodi vehicles already on the road will be replaced with the new fleet's more advanced models. An equal number of new vehicles are replacing each of the 34 current outdated hearse vehicles.

T Harish Rao, the state's minister of health, said telangana is creating new benchmarks for other states to follow in terms of developing health facilities and establishing one government medical college in each district. He expressed gratitude to the chief minister for swiftly approving the plans to upgrade the amenities at public hospitals and build multi-specialty hospitals in the State. He said that the measures will aid in enhancing Telangana's emergency medical services.


"To secure healthcare for its residents from birth to death, the telangana government has improved its hospitals and medical facilities. The number of ambulance services has expanded with the most recent vehicle additions, going from one vehicle per one lakh people in 2014 to one vehicle per 75,000 in 2023," he continued. The health minister indicated that the '108' service personnel' pay will be raised over four distinct slabs, with the details to be revealed soon.
