N. chandrababu naidu, a former chief minister of andhra pradesh and the current head of the tdp, along with 20 other party officials, have been charged with attempted murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy in connection with recent unrest in the annamayya area. In response to a complaint made by a person called Umpathy reddy, chandrababu naidu was listed as the first offender in the FIR filed at the Mudivedu police station.

The list also included amarnath reddy, a senior politician, former minister Devineni Uma, MLC Bhumireddy Ramgopal reddy, Nallari Kishore, D. Ramesh, G. Narhari, S. Chinnababu, P. Nani, and others. The IPC sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 147 (rioting), 148 (armed with deadly weapon), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 307 (attempt to murder), 115,109 (abetment of offence), 323, 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), and r/w 149 (unlawful assembly) have been used to charge the tdp leaders.

When chandrababu naidu visited the district on august 4 to check on the progress of irrigation projects in the rayalaseema area, violence broke out in the town of Anagallu. After members of the governing ysr congress party (YSRCP) reportedly tore tdp flex banners and staged a demonstration ripped oppose Naidu's arrival, there were clashes. Stones were allegedly thrown at Naidu's motorcade by YSRCP members, which prompted NSG commandos to protect the former chief minister, who is protected by Z-plus category security.

Following the police's intervention to prevent tdp workers from entering the town without authorization, punganur in the neighbouring chittoor district also saw violence on the same scale. They lit two cars on fire and threw stones at the cops. The subsequent violence resulted in injuries to more than 50 police officers. 70 tdp members have been detained thus far for the violence at Punganur.

In addition to criticising the police for siding with the ruling party, Naidu had blamed the violence on the state's Energy minister, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy. However, chittoor SP Y. Rishanth reddy had criticised the tdp members for diverting from the intended path to punganur and attacked the police, calling the violence pre-planned. The SP said that Naidu referred to the mla of the opposition party as "Ravana" and encouraged tdp members to harass YSRCP supporters and law enforcement.
