8 states including TN not meeting Amrita Sarovar target..1?
The states of West Bengal, Punjab, Telangana, Kerala, tamil Nadu, Haryana, bihar and rajasthan have not achieved the target set under the amrita Sarovar scheme, the central government said. Every state is trying to establish at least 75 amrita Sarovar water bodies in every district of their state. However, the central government said that the target of setting up 75 amrita Sarovar reservoirs per district has not been achieved in the states of West Bengal, Punjab, Telangana, Kerala, tamil Nadu, Haryana, bihar and rajasthan alone.
So far, 1,12,277 Amrit Sarovar water bodies have been identified. Work on 81,425 water bodies has been started under the amrita Sarovar project. A total of 66,278 water bodies have been created or renovated under the amrita Sarovar scheme. Eight states lag behind in meeting targets under Mission Amrit Sarovar
Mission Amrit Sarovar was launched by the prime minister on 24th april 2022 with the objective of providing sustainable water sources which is expected to build/revive at least 75 Amrit Sarovar in each district. The national target of 50,000 amrita Sarovar has been achieved by following the proper guidelines of the Mission. The amrita Sarovar Project is being implemented jointly by 8 central ministries namely Rural Development Department, Land Resources Department, Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, Water Resources Department, panchayat raj Ministry and Forest Ministry. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways are also involved in this project. Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space application and Geo-Informatics (BISAG-N) is providing technical assistance to the project. The movement is functioning through grants from mahatma gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, 15th Finance Commission.
