Congress will not hesitate to sacrifice the farmers..!?
Meanwhile, a meeting of the Cauvery Management Commission, set up by the supreme court to resolve the issues in the distribution of Cauvery river water, was held in delhi recently. In that meeting, officials from the karnataka side said that only 8,000 cubic feet of water will be released to tamil Nadu and that too only till august 22. Already, no order was issued in this meeting to provide karnataka State with the 37.97 TMC of water deficit due to tamil Nadu. Subsequently, the tamil Nadu government filed a case in the supreme court seeking an order to the karnataka government to release the pending Cauvery water immediately. The supreme court, which heard the case, has promised that a new session will be set up today to hear the Cauvery water sharing case.
Meanwhile, karnataka Water Resources minister and deputy chief minister TK Sivakumar said that taking into consideration the state's drinking water needs, water availability and farmers' sentiments, there is no need for the tamil Nadu government to go to the supreme court so quickly regarding Cauvery river water. Meanwhile, the Cauvery Management Authority has ordered karnataka to provide the remaining 37.9 TMC of water due to tamil Nadu as per the supreme court verdict. Subsequently, the karnataka government ordered to release 10 TMC of water from Cauvery river to tamil Nadu. A total of 22 thousand 401 cubic feet of water per second has been released to tamil Nadu from two dams namely Krishnarajasagar and Kabini.
There has been strong opposition to this in the state. Farmers from Mandya district were involved in the protest on the Bengaluru-Mysore National Highway. karnataka state bjp members also protested in Mandya insisting that Cauvery water should not be opened from karnataka to tamil Nadu. The bjp is strongly protesting that the karnataka government should not open Cauvery water to tamil Nadu. In this situation, Union minister Rajeev chandrasekhar has condemned the karnataka government's release of Cauvery water to tamil Nadu. Opposing the release of 10 TMC of water from Cauvery river to tamil Nadu, he said, "Congress will do anything for politics even if it sacrifices the lives of farmers in Karnataka. This has caused pain to the farmers.” He said.
