WFI Membership Suspended: Pride and misdeeds of one person...?
The international Wrestling Federation has canceled the membership of the Wrestling Federation of india for
not conducting the elections on time. The international Wrestling Federation has suspended the WFI for not
holding elections within 45 days. Leaders of all political parties are attacking Brij bhushan Sharan Singh after
the cancellation of the membership of the Wrestling Federation of India. Meanwhile, congress Rajya Sabha
MP Deepender Singh Hooda has targeted Brij bhushan Sharan Singh.
Sport was sacrificed to save an accused
Actually, Dipendra Singh Hooda tweeted from his official twitter handle that, 'The cancellation of the
membership of the Wrestling Federation of india by United World Wrestling is sad. We are ashamed that due
to the pride and misdeeds of one person, our wrestlers will not have the shadow of tricolor and national anthem
on the podium. To save an accused, the sport and the institution which brought maximum medals for the
country are being sacrificed.
For what reasons the election could not be held?
Since the beginning of this year, the Wrestling Federation of india has not been able to conduct elections for
the post of its president. Earlier this year, wrestlers protested against Wrestling Association President Brij
bhushan Singh sharan and accused him of sexual harassment.
After these allegations, elections could not be held in the Wrestling Federation of india on time. According to
the rules, these elections should have been held by june 2023. Although Brij bhushan Singh sharan was
removed from the wrestling association since february and his tenure also ended in May, but then many state
units had moved the court regarding these elections.
