On Friday, over 600 doctors working in government-run hospitals urged the government to grant their long-standing requests for a pay increase and the discharge of arrears. At a meeting of the telangana government physicians Association (TGGDA) held at Osmania Medical college, the physicians expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of response to their requests.

They requested that the telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP), which is in charge of paying medical professionals, be amalgamated with the health department. Additionally, they called for the payment of arrears owed by the 2016 Pay Revision Commission as well as the release of allowances for teaching physicians at rural medical institutions. The physicians sought the issuance of health cards, the regularisation of doctors who were employed under contract, and the hiring of district medical and health officials based on seniority.

Earlier, Dr. Ruth john Paul Koyyala, 29, became the first transgender person to enrol in a master's programme in medicine on monday when she enrolled in Hyderabad's ESI Medical college and Hospital for an MD in emergency medicine after years of fighting for acceptance of their identity in the pursuit of higher education. She claims that the issue is more convoluted than it seems from the outside, and she describes herself as being "happy but not happy."
