Rs 2,265 per quintal – Incentive with minimum reference price for paddy

Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K.Stalin has ordered to provide Rs.2,265 per quintal of ordinary rice and Rs.2,310 per quintal of fine rice along with the minimum reference price for rice in the interests of tamil Nadu farmers from september 1.

In this regard, the tamil Nadu government has issued a press release: tamil Nadu Consumer Goods Trading Corporation has been acting as an agent of the Union government since the Caribbean season 2002-2003 under the Union Government's Decentralized Rice Procurement Scheme and has been purchasing rice under the Union Government's standards. In the last 2022-2023 Kharif procurement season till 21.08.2023, 3526 number of direct paddy procurement stations were opened and 43,84,226 MT of paddy was procured from 5,20,503 farmers and the sale amount was Rs.9,414.58 crore. This year too, the state government has decided to open direct paddy procurement stations for the 2023-2024 Kharif procurement season and procure paddy from the farmers under the Decentralized Paddy Procurement Scheme of the Union Government.

As the mettur dam has been opened on 12.06.2023 this year, and the required amount of seeds and fertilizers have been provided to the farmers under the Kurvai Package Scheme, in the interests of the farmers, the chief minister of tamil Nadu has requested the Union government to undertake the purchase of paddy for the Kharif 2023-2024 season from 01.09.2023. It has approved the procurement of paddy for the season from 01.09.2023 onwards.

The Union government has fixed the minimum reference price for the 2023-2024 Carib season at Rs.2,183 per quintal for normal paddy and Rs.2,203 per quintal for light paddy. In this case, in order to increase the production of paddy and to alleviate the distress of the farmers and encourage them further, KMS has issued an order to provide an additional incentive of Rs.82 per quintal of normal paddy and Rs.107 per quintal of light paddy from the funds of the tamil Nadu government for the procurement season of KMS 2023-2024. At present, the tamil Nadu government has ordered to pay Rs.2,265 per quintal of normal paddy and Rs.2,310 per quintal of light paddy to the farmers who sell paddy at direct paddy procurement stations. Further, it is stated that the chief minister of tamil Nadu has also ordered to provide this new minimum resource price and incentive amount of the state government from 01.09.2023.
