ASEAN-India Summit: What did PM Modi say in his address?

ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) is considered one of the most influential groupings in the

region. Many other countries including india, America, China, japan and australia are its dialogue partners. In

his inaugural address, PM Modi said ASEAN occupies a key place in India's Indo-Pacific initiative and New

Delhi is committed to working 'shoulder to shoulder' with it, He said, "The 21st century is the century of Asia. It

is our century. It requires the efforts of all to build a rules-based world order after Covid-19 and human welfare."

The prime minister also reaffirmed that ASEAN is a central pillar of India's Act east policy and fully supports

the centrality of ASEAN and its vision on the Indo-Pacific.

He said, "Our history and geography connect india and ASEAN. Shared values as well as regional unity, peace,

prosperity and shared belief in a multipolar world bind us together. The grouping has a prominent place in India's

Indo-Pacific initiative. keeps." Last year, relations between the two sides had reached a comprehensive strategic

partnership. After this, this was the first summit between the two sides.

PM Modi said, "Today, even in an environment of global uncertainties, there is continuous progress in our

mutual cooperation in every field. This is a proof of the strength and resilience of our relations. ASEAN matters

because here everyone's voice is heard. And ASEAN is the center of development because the ASEAN region

plays an important role in global development.
