Telangana Hyderabad - Towering city Ganesh idol to be cynosure of all eyes

SIBY JEYYA
On september 18 (Monday), the auspicious day of ganesh chaturthi, the Khairatabad Ganesh idol will be presented, and it is sure to win over the hearts of worshippers not just in the city but from all around. The enormous spectacle this towering idol delivers will leave both the devoted and the inquisitive in awe.
A journey that started in 1954 is currently celebrating its 69th year. The independence warrior S., who died in 1954, is credited with creating the idol. Bal Gangadhar Tilak's passionate plea for celebrating ganesh chaturthi during the ferocious days of the indian liberation fight served as an inspiration for Shankaraiah. This custom began in Khairatabad with a one-foot idol and has now developed into a stunning yearly display. Later, his brother S sudarshan continued it. raj Kumar, the coordinator of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee, said: "After the passing of my father S sudarshan in 2022, I am looking after the celebration very actively."

The Khairatabad Ganesh idol has had a fascinating journey of development and change since its creation. Originally only one foot tall, this legendary idol has progressively grown over the years to reach its current enormous 65-foot height. The idol was briefly scaled back to a modest 9 feet due to the unanticipated difficulties brought on by the global pandemic in 2020. The devotional spirit persisted despite these failures.

We constructed the idol out of clay rather than plaster of paris (PoP), and the artisans outlined it with paddy straw, rice husk, and jute fabric. raj Kumar continues, "The dry clay is purchased from rajasthan and mixed with water to create the outer layer." The idol's proportions were reduced to 40 feet in 2021 in response to the ongoing difficulties experienced throughout the immersion procedure. This modification was made in an effort to preserve the famed Khairatabad Ganesh's holiness and significance while ensuring a safer and more orderly finale for the yearly celebrations.

Organizers built a towering clay idol that stood an astonishing 60 feet tall in 2022, taking a risky step into unexplored territory. This year, the custom reaches even greater heights thanks to the idol's astounding height of 63 feet. The idol's inner frame weighs 20 tonnes of steel, according to an interview with the india Herald. The idol weighs between 45 and 50 tonnes. The entire structure is built of clay, and we haven't utilized any plaster of paris (PoP), according to the committee's convenor, Singari sandeep Mudiraj.
