Telangana Hyderabad - Experts stress need to redesign main junctions in Secunderabad Cantonment

As thousands of commuters travel every day from different portions of the secunderabad Cantonment, including Ammuguda, Trimulgherry, and Karkhana, they are experiencing nightmares and the important crossroads need to be redesigned. The Karkhana road is the most crowded section in the city during peak hours, according to a recent joint research by BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, and NIT-Durgapur.

The study looked at the relationship between traffic congestion and geometric features. It was directed by professors Prasanta Kumar Sahu of BITS Pilani and Bandhan Majumdar of NIT Durgapur. Other researchers on the team were naveed Farooz Marazi, Subshree Panda, and Siddartha Koramati. Data were gathered from around 20 police stations in five different metropolitan traffic zones. Based on police crash data from 2015 to 2020, data was gathered from 2021 to 2022 at specific places.

According to the survey, the Karkhana junction was one of the city's 10 busiest intersections. It advocated utilizing TTCI values to build cordon lines for delaminating congestion zones and measuring the level of service of the route. It also devised a revolutionary approach known as TTCI to evaluate traffic congestion. The study's proposed remedy is the placement of traffic signs and information before junctions. Diversions can lessen the likelihood that cars will become confused, which can ease congestion.

To minimize the number of private vehicles inside city data-borders, which is another practical solution to the congestion issue, public transit systems must be upgraded. Truck and trailer traffic should be limited during rush hours since they might generate speed variations owing to an event known as 'elephant racing'.

Complete sections of the SCB require improvement, according to CS Chandrasekhar, secretary of the Federation of North-Eastern Colonies of Secunderabad. Each stretch has a variety of issues, including small roads, congested traffic, and pothole-filled stretches. Given the hardships we encounter every day, even the five freshly completed highways require new carpeting. Numerous accidents have happened as a result of the poor state of the roadways. It would be preferable if key intersections were redesigned by the SCB authorities and the State government.

"All important junctions in SCB need to be re-designed," claims Nikhil, a local. Roads have to be enlarged, and unlawful speed bumps ought to be taken out. Only a few potholes on Karkhana Road, Ammuguda, Trimulgherry, were recently filled with sand, however it ran away owing to the recent rain. Everything is back to normal again. Due to the considerable annoyance it is bringing to the general public and the traffic jams it is difficult to drive or stroll on the stretch. "At the very least, the SCB should address the public's complaints and resolve the road problem right away." Another issue we have is that early walkers are still not permitted on several routes along the Rashtrapati Nilayam road, particularly Bolarum.
