NIA raids 30 locations in Telangana and Tamil Nadu in ISIS recruitment case
In connection with an investigation into isis recruiting and radicalization, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out raids on 30 sites in tamil Nadu and telangana on Saturday. These searches were conducted by NIA detectives at 21 places in coimbatore, three in Chennai, and one in Tenkasi, all of which are in tamil Nadu. Additionally, according to agency sources who spoke to ANI, the agency searched five locations in Hyderabad, Telangana. Following new information regarding an isis module that may have connections to the coimbatore suspects, these searches were carried out at the homes of people associated with the case.
The NIA had earlier this month detained a suspect for his role in the 2022 terror plot who was connected to the coimbatore car IED bomb blast that was inspired by ISIS. Mohammed Azarudeen, also known as Azar, was named as the man. He was the 13th individual in the case to be taken into custody. On october 27, 2022, the NIA seized control of the case and reregistered it.
On october 23 of the previous year, a car bombing in coimbatore occurred in front of the Arulmigu Kottai Sangameshwarar Thirukovil temple on Eswaran Kovil Street in Ukkadam. The deceased accused Jamesha Mubeen was operating the Vehicle-Born Improvised Explosives Device (VBIED).
Following their 'bayath' or loyalty to ISIS's self-declared Caliph Abu-Al-Hasan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurashi, Mubeen and his friends were motivated by ISIS's hardline ideology to plan and carry out the terrorist act. According to NIA investigations, the accused planned to use this terrorist assault as retaliation against the Kafirs (non-Muslims). Two chargesheets have been submitted by the NIA so far in the case before the NIA court in Poonamallee, Chennai. On april 20 of this year, six accused were charged, and on june 2 of last year, five were. Mohammed Idris, the 12th defendant, was taken into custody on august 2 of this year.
