As part of security preparations for two concurrent holidays, Milad un Nabi and the Ganesh festival, the hyderabad police (South Zone) staged a flag march in sensitive communal areas of the Old City on wednesday evening. Under the direction of DCP South Zone P Sai chaitanya and Additional DCP South Zone Shaik Jahangeer, two Rapid Action Force companies, and local police units participated in the march.
When speaking to the media, Sai chaitanya outlined the march's goal as instilling a sense of security and safety among the public. He made it clear that the police were doing all possible to keep the calm. In addition, he sternly warned potential troublemakers that anyone engaged in mischief would data-face harsh punishment.
In view of the huge rush in the markets and anticipating thefts by pocket-picking gangs and habitual offenders, the police deployed crime teams in markets especially in Old City areas. mobile phone and gold chain thefts and pocket picking are common crimes reported in the market during shopping. According to police, the gangs, involving women and children, usually strike at this time of the year preying on unsuspecting shoppers, especially women, in areas like Charminar, Lad Bazaar, Pathergatti, Madina market among others.
