A software engineer lost 48.3 lakh in two weeks due to a fake part-time job that required her to submit google reviews. On Monday, the tech worker from Serilingampally complained to the Cyberabad police. She said that on august 2, 'Anaya' sent her a whatsapp message offering her a job to promote a restaurant by creating reviews on google Maps. In one day, she was assigned 22 assignments, including 17 free work and 5 paid tasks. Additionally, she was instructed to join a Telegram group where assignments were issued.
"I had to share screenshots and provide bank details for payment after completing three tasks," she stated. She received 150 for doing three free tasks. Then, she was offered a 3,000-dollar task. She received roughly $13,000 total. "My account balance was 26 lakh, but to withdraw it, I had to pay a tax of 10.6 lakh. After I paid, I was informed that my credit score had dropped from 100 to 60 due to a task error and that it needed to be at 100 in order to withdraw money. I was requested to pay an additional 16 lakh. Sections 420 of the IPC and 66-D of the IT Act were both used to book a case.
Similarly, A 39-year-old homemaker from pune lost Rs. 4,58,00,000 to internet con artists after they offered to pay her for doing jobs online. She was paid by the con artists to like videos and write reviews in exchange for promises of lucrative rewards. The woman put all of her funds into the plan, but she never saw any returns. Other victims have been duped using a variety of strategies, including false employment offers and prize promises, and another individual has been detained in a similar fraud case. The public is urged by authorities to exercise caution and confirm the legitimacy of calls and information.
