Groundwater levels in Telangana up by over 4 meters between 2013-23
A collaborative examination by the state government and the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Jal Shakthi, government of India, discovered that the groundwater levels in telangana had increased by more than 4 meters over the previous nine years. The greatest percentage in the nation—83 percent of mandals—report rising temperatures. Additionally, it demonstrates that groundwater extraction in the state has decreased by 19%, or from 58 to 39 percent, since 2013, according to a news statement from the state administration.
In comparison to 2013 (472 TMC), the amount of extractable groundwater resources rose by 56 percent in 2023 (739 TMC). The state's efforts to raise the water table and lessen reliance on groundwater have been recognized by the indian government, it continued.
According to the press release, "These efforts include the restoration of more than 27472 tanks under Mission Kakatiya, the lifting of water through the kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, the filling of MI tanks on a regular basis by connecting with major and medium projects, and the construction of more than 1000 artificial recharge structures, such as check dams, percolation tanks, recharge shafts, etc."

The "Dynamic Ground Water Resources of telangana State for the year 2023" was approved at a State Level Committee (SLC) meeting on Friday, september 29. Rajat Kumar, the state's special chief secretary for the irrigation and CAD departments, presided over the meeting. The special chief secretary urged that the state's priceless groundwater resources be "optimally used" for the welfare and development of telangana farmers after praising the Ground Water Department and Central Ground Water Board for their "excellent" performance.
