Taking a big decision, the bhagwant mann government of punjab has decided to ban the sowing of Pusa-44

variety of paddy crop which consumes more water. Meanwhile, cm bhagwant mann formally started the paddy

procurement work in the state on Tuesday, after which he appealed to the farmers to stop the practice of burning

stubble. cm Mann also directed the Civil Supplies, Food and Consumer Affairs Department to conduct smooth

procurement during the current Kharif marketing season starting from october 1.

cm Mann said that we are committed to purchasing every grain from the farmers. Announcing the closure of the

cultivation of Pusa-44 variety of paddy, he said that not only does it take more time to ripen, but secondly it also

produces more crop residues. He said that even in this session they were asked not to sow Pusa-44 variety, but

still many farmers have sown it, hence there is a complete ban on Pusa-44 variety in punjab in the next session. .

What else did cm bhagwant mann say?

The chief minister said that PR-126 variety takes 152 days to ripen. Whereas Pusa variety requires more water

for irrigation. He said that one or two new varieties will be developed for sowing the crop. Regarding the


practice of burning stubble, cm Mann said that crop residue machinery is being given to the farmers for in-situ

i.e. in the field and ex-situ i.e. outside the field management of stubble. He also said that the use of straw in brick

kilns has been made mandatory in the state.
