Maharashtra district Collectors empowered to access medical funds
On Thursday, collectors were given the right to use 100 per cent of the medical fund available with the District
Planning Development Committee (DPDC) for the purchase of medicines. Earlier they were able to use only 10
percent of it. Additionally, in view of the Nanded incident, the health Department has decided to immediately
procure essential and life-saving medicines to overcome any possible shortage.
During the pandemic, similar powers were handed over to districts to facilitate emergency procurement. A
certain portion of DPDC funds has been designated for medical supplies. However, the districts were able to
spend only 10 per cent of this allocation, with the remaining 90 per cent directed towards bulk procurement by
Haffkine Biopharmaceuticals.
