In the beginning of september, maratha agitator Manoj Jarange started a fast with the demand of givingreservation under OBC quota by giving Kunbi caste certificate to the people of the community. His fast took theform of a movement within a month and by the end of september, this demand for reservation had reachedother parts of the state as well. Meanwhile, with the general elections to be held after a year and increasingpolitical pressure, cm Shinde met Jarange and assured to fulfill his demands. Jarange ended his fast on 14thSeptember on the 17th day. At that time, Jarange had given 40 days time to the Shinde government to take stepsto implement reservation.Now on 24th october i.e. the 40 day ultimatum given by Jarange is going to end. In view of this, Jarange gave astatement saying that if the state government fails to give quota in government jobs and education, then myfuneral procession will take place on 24th. Apart from this statement of Jarange, another worker committedsuicide on october 19 due to which the issue of reservation has once again become heated.What are the Marathas demanding?In the movement going on in maharashtra since september 1, there is a demand to give OBC status to thepeople of maratha community. This community says that till the end of Nizam's rule in september 1948, peopleof maratha community were considered Kunbi and Kunbi came under OBC. Therefore, once again they shouldbe given the status of Kunbi caste and included in OBC.
