Russian airport closed after mob stormed it looking for Israelis
Following claims that a jet was approaching from Israel, a crowd stormed Dagestan's major airport on Sunday, diverting planes and forcing the aviation agency of russia to close it. "It has been decided to temporarily close Makhachkala airport to arriving and departing flights following the entry of unknown people into the traffic zone," Rossavitsia stated, adding that security personnel had already arrived.
Several hundred men allegedly entered the airport and onto the runway after hearing that someone had come from Israel, according to Russian state media Izvestia and RT. Men were seen leaping over barricades, seizing possession of departing automobiles, and entering the airport in videos posted on Telegram.
In one video, a guy could be seen scaling the wing of a Russian red Wings business aircraft. At 7:00 p.m. local time (1600 GMT), a red Wings aircraft from Tel Aviv made landfall in Makhachkala, according to Flightradar. As per Sota, an independent Russian media outlet, the aircraft was intended to have a stopover in Makhachkala before to continuing on to Moscow.
Some members of the mob reportedly requested to see people's passports at the airport before making their way to the aircraft, based on pictures shared on social media.
Some of the men yelled "Allah Akbar" at the films, while another held a sign that said, "Killers of children have no place in Dagestan".
On the incidents, the Kremlin has not yet made any comments.
A Jewish centre in the city of Nalchik, in the North Caucasus province of Kabardino-Balkaria, was set on fire earlier on Sunday, according to a report by the news agency RIA Novosti.
