File FIR if victimized by fake videos: Rajeev Chandrasekhar..!?

Union minister rajeev Chandrasekhar has urged to register an FIR if affected by fake videos. Union minister of State for Electronics and Information technology Rajiv chandrasekhar has urged victims of artificial intelligence-generated deep fake videos to register a First Information Report (FIR) at the nearest station and seek redress under the Information technology Rules, 2021 and the indian Penal Code (IPC).

Considering the significant challenges posed by fake information and deep fake, the Ministry of Electronics and Information technology has issued a second advisory within the last six months. It also called on online platforms to take decisive action against the spread of deepfakes.


“Deepfakes are hugely damaging. In particular, they harm women. Our government is committed to ensuring the security and confidence of all wallet PLATFORM' target='_blank' title='digital-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW">digital users. With this, our targeted children and women are given extra priority.” rajeev Chandrasekhar said. He also pointed out that under the Information technology (IT) Rules, 2021, it is a legal obligation for online platforms to prevent any user from spreading false information.


Social networking sites must ensure that false information is removed within 36 hours if reported by any user or government. If the social networking sites do not comply, the aggrieved person can go to court as per Section 7, IPC, he said. The Ministry of Electronics and Information technology has issued advice and instructions to social media platforms including Facebook, instagram and YouTube to remove such fake content generated by artificial intelligence (AI). Earlier, a fake video of film actress rashmika Mandhana went viral on social media yesterday and created a lot of controversy. Zara Patel, a woman of indian origin living in England, posted a video of herself on instagram on october 9. In the video, her data-face was changed and replaced with the data-face of film actress rashmika Mandhana using deepfake technology.


As the video went viral, concerns about artificial intelligence, deepfake technology, and fake videos were raised. In this situation, it is noteworthy that the central government has warned that if a fake video is made and published, it will be punished with imprisonment of three years and a fine of Rs.1 lakh.
