Tunnel construction accident in Uttarakhand: 40 workers trapped..!?

4.5 km. A 150 meter long section of this long tunnel has collapsed. According to the police, the incident took place around 4 am on sunday morning. A section of a tunnel under construction has collapsed in Uttarakhand. It is feared that 40 workers were trapped in the debris. Efforts are being made to remove the debris and rescue the trapped workers. The tunnel was constructed to connect Silkyara to Thandalgaon in Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand. It is being constructed under Sar Dham Road Project. The tunnel aims to shorten the journey from Uttarkashi to Yamunotri Dham by 26 km. 4.5 km. A 150 meter long section of this long tunnel has collapsed. According to the police, the incident took place around 4 am on sunday morning. After receiving information about the incident, the district administration was alerted and rescue operations started immediately.


The State Disaster Response Force and the police are jointly carrying out rescue operations. According to officials, the debris had to be removed to a distance of 200 meters to rescue the trapped people. Arrangements are made to insert an oxygen tube into the crevices to help the trapped workers avoid suffocation. No casualties have been reported so far. Speaking about the rescue operation, chief minister Pushkar Singh Thami said, "I have been in touch with the authorities ever since I came to know about the incident. National and state rescue teams are engaged in rescue operations at the scene. We pray to god that everyone is safe and rescued soon."
