New Law against Deep Fakes: Union Minister..!?

Union minister Rajeev chandrasekhar has said that a new law will be brought against deep fakes if necessary. Union minister of State for Electronics and Information technology Rajiv chandrasekhar has said that his government is committed to protecting people from fake information generated by artificial intelligence and deepfakes.


Speaking about this, he said that the government will continue to create frameworks to ensure that deepfakes or false information do not pose a threat to indians and new laws will be introduced if necessary. "We will continue to build a framework, including new legislation, to ensure that deepfakes or misinformation do not challenge or threaten the security and trust of the 1.2 billion indians who use the indian internet." said the minister.


Minister Rajiv chandrasekhar pointed out that while AI is a tool for empowerment, development and innovation, we must not forget that other types of features, including artificial intelligence, are being used to cause harm, social chaos, disruption, incitement to violence, and gangs using AI-generated deepfakes to spread fake information. The minister also said that they are a major threat to the safety and confidence of indians using the internet. He also said that they have already worked very hard to frame the IT rules by april 2023.


Earlier, prime minister Modi had said that emerging technologies such as deepfakes pose a major threat to humanity. Speaking at the diwali Milan event at the bjp headquarters in Delhi, prime minister Modi urged people to be aware of the growing threat of artificial intelligence in creating deepfakes. Sharing his personal experience at the time, PM Modi said that he was surprised to see a video of a fake Karpa dancing like him.


A majority of people in our country do not have the will to verify a thing. He warned that people often believe deep fakes, which could create turmoil and unrest in the society. He added that it is time to educate people about the negative sides of artificial intelligence. Recently, fake videos of bollywood actresses including actress rashmika Mandhana, actress Kajol, created using deepfake technology, have been released and created a lot of buzz across the country.
