In this situation, special buses were also operated for the convenience of passengers.In a statement issued by the Transport Department in this regard, on behalf of the Transport Department, the operation of special buses organized on the occasion of pongal festival as of midnight yesterday (13/01/2024) 24.00 hours, the number of buses operating normally is 2,100 buses and 2,100 buses and 2,210 special buses last 12/01/2024. 4,44,860 passengers traveled in 7,670 buses from 13/01/2024 till 24.00 hrs.
Also, so far 2,30,514 passengers have booked and booked to travel. 2210 special buses were operated in one day yesterday alone. This is the highest number of special buses run on a single day in the last three years. Due to high volume of vehicles plying on Chennai-Trichy highway yesterday, bus operation hours were extended. Chennai-Trichy normal days 7 hourly buses took 11 hours and there was delay in bringing the next bus to Chennai.
Bus service extended till 5 am
Apart from this, the Tiruchi Ponmalai railway flyover was cracked, causing the buses to ply on alternate routes causing delays. Due to this there was a slight delay in sending the passengers from chennai to their hometowns. The transport department said that it took till five o'clock today to send all the passengers from Koyambedu and Klambakkam bus stations to their hometowns yesterday.
