Accordingly a hearing was held on monday in the National Green Tribunal (NGT) regarding the ongoing illegal mining case on the land seized by the Enforcement Directorate in Rupnagar, Punjab. In this regard, NGT has issued a notice to the punjab government, district Magistrate and Mining Officer and sought their reply. A petition was filed in NGT on behalf of congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu. Now the next hearing regarding the case will be held on march 11. In the petition, Navjot Singh Sidhu had also blamed the punjab government for failing to stop illegal mining and demanded a ban on it. He had said that illegal mining is going on on a large scale in punjab and a large number of crushers as well as mining related machinery are being used, due to which the risk of river bed slipping has increased.

Meanwhile last year in December, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia had also demanded a high court monitoring or cbi investigation into the alleged illegal mining worth crores of rupees being done in Ropar. In a statement, the SAD leader had said that despite the fact that desilting was banned in the AAP government's 2023 mining policy, sand mining is currently being carried out on a large scale with heavy machinery in Chandpura village of Anandpur Sahib tehsil. Desilting work is being done.

Moreover Bikram Majithia had said, "The protest by the villagers also had no impact on the mining department or the district police, because the miners enjoy government protection." Stating that illegal mining was being done on a large scale in other parts of Ropar district by the minister and his associates, Majithia said that also illegal mining could be converted into legal mining by imposing a fee of Rs 6 per cubic feet. Used to be. He said that by doing this the AAP government is legalizing the sand which is being mined illegally in areas where legal mines have not been approved.
