Aam Aadmi party leader sanjay singh, who was re-elected to rajya sabha from Delhi, will not be able to take oath on 8-9 February. Sources in the office of the Chairman of rajya sabha gave this information on tuesday (6 February). According to sources, the report of the Privilege Committee on Sanjay Singh's case has not yet come before the house, hence he will not be able to take oath. On tuesday itself, Delhi's Rouse Avenue court has given permission to sanjay singh to go to rajya sabha in police custody to take oath on 8 or 9 February.

sanjay singh is currently in jail. He is in judicial custody in a money laundering case related to Delhi's excise policy matter. Earlier, sanjay singh could not take oath on monday (February 5) as it was not listed in the business of the House.

Where is the problem regarding Sanjay Singh's oath?

On august 11, 2023, the rajya sabha had passed an order that sanjay singh will remain suspended until the Privileges Committee submits its report and the house takes a decision on that report. sanjay singh was suspended for unruly conduct during the monsoon session last year. The Privileges Committee is yet to submit its report. Even the Privileges Committee meeting is not scheduled yet. rajya sabha will decide on the suspension of sanjay singh after the presentation of the Privileges Committee report. If the suspension is revoked, the rajya sabha Secretariat will issue summons to sanjay singh to come and take oath. Then he will be able to take oath as a rajya sabha member. Therefore, apprehensions are being raised over Sanjay Singh's oath taking on 8th or 9th February.
