Qatar's Release: PM Modi's Coup.!
Prime minister Modi had a meeting with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during the COP28 summit in Dubai, where discussions included bilateral partnerships and the welfare of indians in Qatar. It is believed that PM Modi raised the issue of the released personnel during these discussions. Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra announced PM Modi's upcoming visit to Qatar's capital Doha on february 14 after his uae visit.
Captain (retd) Navtej Gill, Saurabh Vashistha, commander (retd) Purnendu Tiwari, amit Nagpal, SK Gupta, BK Verma, Sugunakar Pakala, and Sailor (retd) Ragesh were sentenced in an alleged espionage case. While most have returned, Tiwari is still in Doha but is expected to return to india soon. The indian government and qatar have not officially commented on the allegations. The release follows sustained efforts by PM Modi, External Affairs minister S Jaishankar, and NSA Ajit Doval, indicating a positive turn in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
