Did Rajiv Gandhi won Lok Sabha election thrice?
As per report congress on friday released its first list of candidates for the lok sabha elections. It includes names of 39 candidates from nine states. Former congress President and senior party leader rahul gandhi has once again been given ticket from Wayanad, Kerala. Now many questions have arisen due to this decision of the party.
Perhaps in fact, after making rahul gandhi the candidate from Kerala, the biggest question that arises is whether he will now contest the lok sabha elections from Amethi, the family's traditional seat? Amethi lok sabha seat came into existence in 1967 and after this congress established its dominance on this seat. For the first time in 1977, there was a candidate from the gandhi family on this seat. First of all, Sanjay gandhi, son of former PM Indira gandhi, contested elections from here.
Although he lost the first election, the gandhi family contested and won four consecutive elections from 1980 to 1991. Sanjay gandhi won in 1980 and after his death, brother Rajiv gandhi won from here three consecutive times. After the assassination of Rajiv gandhi, the party nominated Satish Sharma, who was Sanjay Gandhi's assistant in Amethi, as its candidate and he won.
In 1998 also, congress made Satish Sharma its candidate on this seat, but this time BJP's sanjay singh defeated him and won the election. After this, when lok sabha elections were held in 1999, sonia gandhi contested and won. Then in 2004, he left this seat for his son rahul gandhi and since then rahul gandhi has won three consecutive elections here. But in the 2019 lok sabha elections, rahul gandhi was defeated by Smriti Irani. gandhi family had to data-face defeat on this seat after 42 years. But now after rahul Gandhi's announcement of contesting elections from Wayanad, speculations are being made whether he will not contest elections from Amethi this time? Now if this happens, then after 28 years the party will make someone outside the gandhi family its candidate from Amethi seat.
