Leak in mumbai Coastal Road Tunnel…

Water leakage has been observed in some joints of the walls of the underground tunnel of mumbai Coastal Road. Water is leaking at five places in a length of 300 meters. Water seeps in two joints, but moisture is barely noticeable in three joints. mumbai Municipal Corporation officials estimate that the water leakage may be due to a gap in the sealing solution (chemical) applied between the two joints of the connection.

The municipality took these steps

Polymer grout was released by injection in the connecting joints in the mumbai Coastal Road underground tunnel. This has stopped water from entering the joints. This polymer grout helps to fill the voids in the cement concrete. The leak will not affect the construction quality or traffic of the tunnel.

What is polymer grouting?

Under this, grouting is done by injection in the crack. Due to which this chemical enters the construction joint and comes in contact with the water coming in the joint. The grout expands and automatically shuts off the water. Once the polymer grouting is done, it is monitored for the next seven to eight days. After this, it is speculated that it has completely stopped. Water has leaked through the connecting joints in the underground tunnel of mumbai Coastal Road. More supplementary measures will be taken in future after studying it through experts. There are 40 connecting joints in the left and right walls of the mumbai Coastal Road underground tunnel. Out of these 40 joints, the joints which are leaking or have moisture around them will be repaired.
