BJP loses just nine seats in Maharashtra...

The bjp gained 23 seats in 2014 and 2019, giving the impression that it was the dominant force in maharashtra politics. However, the results of 2024 have shown the experts incorrect.

The bjp now only has nine seats, down from their previously declared Mission 45 for Maharashtra. As part of the coalition with Ajit Pawar's ncp and the Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, it had run for 28 seats. Even worse, in maharashtra the party's vote share decreased by 1% from 27.84 per cent in 2014 to 26.45 per cent in 2019, in contrast to a number of other states where it increased regardless of seat loss. In the assembly elections later this year, the loss of nine seats would be noteworthy. The bjp has held the top spot in the maharashtra assembly for the past ten years. Insiders in the party predict that Tuesday's results will cause a shakeup in the state organization of the party.

"With the exception of MVA's two and a half years, we have held both state and municipal government authority. We may suffer significant setbacks in the upcoming assembly and local body elections later this year if the lok sabha trend persists. We worry that because of the government's choice to support Marathas in the quota dispute, our traditional OBC voter base has turned against us. According to a top bjp leader who asked to remain anonymous, "farmers are also unhappy with our policies and it could cost us dear if the corrective steps are not taken immediately." The party ran for seven seats in Vidarbha and won two, while in western maharashtra it ran for six seats in pune and Satara and won two, losing Sangli, Solapur, Madha, and Ahmednagar.
