From 2014 to 2017, revanth served as the TDLP floor leader. In october 2018, he resigned from the tdp and joined the congress Party. Subsequently, he was appointed the working president of tpcc in 2018. Although he lost the december 2018 assembly elections from kodangal, he successfully contested the May 2019 lok sabha elections from the malkajgiri constituency as a congress candidate and became a lok sabha member. On june 26, 2021, revanth was appointed as the Telangana PCC President.

Under Revanth's leadership, the congress party contested the 2023 telangana Legislative assembly elections, winning 64 out of 119 seats. revanth contested from both kodangal and kamareddy constituencies in 2023, losing in kamareddy but winning in Kodangal. Following this victory, the congress Legislative party unanimously elected him as the CLP leader and chief minister of the state.
