Imams had not received their salary from Waqf Board…?
The salaries of Imams and Muazzins in Delhi's mosques under Waqf Board were pending for one or two years, but after the Lieutenant Governor's intervention, the salaries of Imams were released in three installments of 5 months each. However, there are still many Imams who have received only two installments or their salary for several months is pending. Some Imams came in front of the media regarding this and shared their problems.
According to news agency IANS, Imam Mohammad Arshad Nadvi said, "This has been the case for almost 2-3 years. Right now we have received our salary in three installments of 5 months each, including many people who have received only installments. Salary of 13-14 months is still pending."
Salary of board members is also pending
The Imam further said, "The salary of the employees of the madrasa running inside Fatehpuri is pending for two-and-a-half years. This situation is continuing. The result is that there are many employees who left this world in poverty. Now the situation is such that the salary of the board members is also not regular. They themselves are also worried about this issue." He said, "The issue of Imam is important. No one is talking about this, nor is this issue being raised. Imams work on very meager salary. This can be estimated from the fact that a family cannot run properly with such a salary and neither can proper education of children be arranged. Despite this, one can imagine what will happen to him if he does not get salary for two years."
Many Imams were declared illegal
At the same time, the Imam of Ajmeri Gate told that the salary has been stopped since May 2022. Salaries of about 250 Imams and Muezzins have not been paid. In the circular of the Waqf Board, 36 Imams and Muezzins were declared illegal and they were refused salary. These 36 are still working in Waqf mosques.
