Retired ship captain duped the name, swindled more than 11 crores!
A case of fraud came to light in Mumbai's Colaba area where cyber thugs duped a retired ship captain of more than 11 crores rupees by luring him in the name of making huge profits in the stock market. Sources said that as soon as the victim retired captain realized that he had been duped of crores, he complained about this to the mumbai police Cyber Cell. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against two unknown persons under the relevant sections of the IT Act and started investigation.
Retired in the year 1995
An official said that the name of the complainant, a resident of Colaba, is Jakshish Kosa Wadia, who is 75 years old. He was a ship captain by profession and retired in the year 1995. Wadia said in his complaint to the police that on august 19, 2024, an unknown person added him to a whatsapp group named Motilal oswal Investment Club 17. Information related to the stock market and investing in it was being shared in that group.
Wadia was seeing profits on the app
When Wadia started trusting the people in that group, one of them sent him a link. As soon as Wadia clicked on the link, a Motilal oswal OTC account was opened. After this, a woman named ananya Smith contacted Wadia and gave him information about investing. On the woman's request, Wadia transferred a total of Rs 11,16,61,161 to 22 different bank accounts for investment. The money invested and the profits from it were visible to Wadia on the app created by the fraudsters.
This is how the suspicion arose
After this, when Wadia contacted the woman ananya to withdraw the money, she said that he would have to pay 20 percent tax. After this Wadia got suspicious and he went to Motilal oswal company and inquired about it. During this he came to know that he had been cheated. After this he filed a case in the cyber cell.
