Reportedly many villages of Tehri district are deprived of road connectivity even after independence. In such a situation, the exercise to connect these villages with roads has intensified under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). Under the scheme, 28 villages of Kirtinagar and Devprayag blocks have been identified, which are now close to being connected by road. 28 villages of Devprayag and kirti Nagar have been included in this scheme so far. Most of these villages are still located at a distance of three to four kilometers on foot. Even though their gram panchayats are connected by roads, the toks (small settlements) under them are deprived of road. Road has not reached villages like Nauda, Dholiyana, Halpada, and Kumeru of Lostu Badiyargarh area till date.

Perhaps Executive engineer of Kirtinagar block shivam Rawat informed that the fourth phase (Phase-4) of PMGSY has been started to provide roads to these villages. Villages whose population is more than 250 have been included in this scheme. Villages whose population is less than 250, but if 2-3 toks together complete the number of 250, then they will also be included in the scheme.

Moreover with the increase in road connectivity under the scheme, the standard of living of the villagers will improve. Villagers will now have the convenience of reaching markets, schools, and health facilities. Farmers will get the opportunity to easily take their crops and products to the market. The hope of improvement in the education and health sector of villages will increase. With this effort under PMGSY, villagers are expected to get big relief. However, keeping in mind the geographical challenges of the hilly areas, it is a big responsibility to complete the work in a timely manner. This scheme will prove to be a milestone in the development of those areas which have been deprived of the mainstream of development till now. This step of the central and state government is important in the direction of empowering rural Uttarakhand.
