Reportedly Mahaparinirvan Diwas is a day to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr Ambedkar. He died on december 6, 1956, in Delhi. It is a day to reflect on Ambedkar’s legacy and his contributions to indian society. An official notification stated that the local holiday has been declared for state government and semi-government offices in mumbai and suburban areas. The order stated “These orders apply to the state government and semi-government offices in mumbai City and mumbai Suburban District. The local holiday is being declared in accordance with the provisions of government Decision No. P and S. Number P-13/II/B, dated 5th November, 1958".Perhaps this is the third local holiday declared by the maharashtra government, following Dahi Handi and Ganesh Visarjan. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, was a social reformer and the principal architect of the indian Constitution. As the chairman of the Drafting Committee, he led the Constituent assembly in meticulously crafting the world’s longest-written constitution.Moreover Babasaheb Ambedkar was a champion of social justice and equality, and he fought tirelessly for the rights of the marginalised and oppressed. His work has had a profound impact on India, and he is remembered as one of the most important figures in indian history.
