Hearing was held on the PIL filed against the UP government's decision to declare temple fairs in Uttar Pradesh as government 'fairs'. The PIL filed in allahabad High court could not be debated today. The next hearing of the case will be on january 17.

Bharatiya Janata party leader Subramanian Swamy has challenged the 2017 decision of the UP government. In this decision, the government has decided to take the management of fairs and festivals related to the temples of the state in its own hands.

The petition has demanded the cancellation of the notification of september 18, 2017 of the Uttar Pradesh government and the resulting order of november 3, 2017. It has been argued that this notification violates Articles 14, 25 and 31A of the indian Constitution.

It is alleged that the UP government is trying to take over the administration, management and control of temples and their religious ceremonies in an arbitrary, unconstitutional and illegal manner.

The PIL also demands a direction to the state government to permanently stop declaring temple fairs and festivals in the state of Uttar Pradesh as government fairs or taking control of them. A division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhasali and Justice Vikas is hearing the case on Wednesday.
