The delhi government has issued instructions to restaurants and clubs after cases of violation of age-related norms came to light. It has been said that the operators of hotels, clubs and restaurants serving liquor should verify the age of customers through government ID.

What does the rule say?

Under the delhi Excise Act, 2009, no person or licensed seller or his employee or agent can sell liquor to any person below the age of 25 years. In the inspections conducted in recent days, the team of the Excise Department of the delhi government found customers below the age of 25 years consuming liquor in bars, clubs and restaurants.

'Licensees are serving liquor to minors'

Officials said that the inspection also revealed that some customers were consuming liquor by declaring their age as higher. The department had also received complaints that some excise licensees were serving alcohol to minors. The circular issued by the department said, "All licensees of Hotel, Club, Restaurant (HCR) are directed to be more cautious and not to serve alcohol to any person below the age of 25 years without verifying the age through the identity card issued by the government."
