Now good quality rice will be available in ration shops!
Usually low quality rice is distributed in ration shops. To prevent this from happening, the Center has started a pilot project. Under this, the share of broken grains in the stock of rice managed by the Food Corporation of india (FCI) will be reduced from the current 10 percent to 25 percent. This will improve the quality of rice available in ration shops in the coming time.
Ethanol will be made from broken rice
If this scheme is successful, it will reduce leakage in the public distribution system, increase the availability of rice for ethanol production and also reduce the cost of storage. Under this scheme of the government, 15 percent of the broken rice will be separated first. After this, it will be sold directly from the rice mills to the distillery to make ethanol.
The government has allocated 24 lakh tonnes of rice from FCI for ethanol by 31 october 2025. According to a business Line report, a source said that when FCI rice is supplied with a mixture of up to 25 per cent broken rice at the rate of Rs 22.50 per kg, it remains possible to get up to 100 per cent broken rice from the mills at a lower cost and sell it in the market.
This is how the quality of rice will improve
According to the pilot project started last month, FCI has asked some mills in Punjab, Haryana, telangana and andhra pradesh to separate 15 per cent broken rice from the 10,000 tonnes of paddy processed under Custom Milled Rice (CMR) in each state. That 15 per cent of broken rice will be sold directly from the mills to the distillery. That is, now if the share of broken grains is up to 25 kg in the 67 kg rice prepared from 100 kg paddy, which will now be reduced to 10 kg because 15 kg of broken grains will be separated separately from it.
