Andhra Cabinet Clears Landmark Health & Development Policies
1. Universal Free Healthcare for Five Crore People 🏥The biggest highlight is the approval of a universal health policy, ensuring free and quality medical treatment for nearly five crore residents. Under this scheme:
- Insurance companies will cover expenses from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh.
- The NTR Vaidya Seva Trust will provide additional coverage up to ₹25 lakh for BPL families.
- A whopping 3,257 medical services will be included.
- Patients will get treatment approvals within six hours of hospital admission.
2. Ten New Medical Colleges on the Way 🎓To expand medical education, the cabinet approved the establishment of 10 new medical colleges under the PPP model in:
Adoni, Madanapalle, Markapuram, Pulivendula, Penugonda, Palacole, Amalapuram, Narsipatnam, Bapatla, and Parvathipuram.
Admissions are expected to start in the 2027-28 academic year, creating a strong pipeline of doctors and healthcare professionals.
3. Boost for education & Infrastructure The government decided to waive stamp duty for lands allotted to hospitals and educational institutions in the Amaravati capital region. Additionally, 59,375 unauthorized constructions (as of august 31, 2025) will be regularized.
To support urban development, the height limit for high-rise buildings has been raised from 18 metres to 24 metres, allowing modernized cityscapes.

5. Deepam-2 Gas Cylinder Distribution Under the Deepam-2 scheme, 23,912 beneficiaries from 16 districts’ agency areas will receive 14.2 kg gas cylinders, ensuring access to clean cooking fuel and reducing reliance on firewood.
6. Industrial Investments & job Creation The cabinet cleared SIPB-approved investments, allotting land to multiple sectors including industries, tourism, youth welfare, and power.
A major allotment includes 26.70 acres in Naidupet for electronics companies, bringing in ₹1,595 crore investment and creating 2,168 jobs.
7. Focus on Irrigation & Drinking Water To strengthen agriculture, the government sanctioned ₹5.7 crore for the repair of 392 irrigation structures.
Additionally, it approved the AP Drinking Water Supply Schemes Operation & Maintenance initiative, ensuring safe drinking water for rural households through panchayat raj Department oversight.
8. Green Tax Reduction In a move welcomed by vehicle owners, the cabinet decided to reduce green tax on vehicles. A bill will soon be introduced in the assembly to make this official, balancing environmental goals with affordability.
