🚗 20-Year-Old Car? Now You Can Register It Outside Delhi – New Rule Explained

Balasahana Suresh
Vehicle owners in delhi have received relief under the new rules regarding the registration of older vehicles. Earlier, there was a one-year restriction for obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) if you wanted to register your vehicle outside Delhi. This rule made it difficult for owners of older vehicles to transfer registration to another state.

🆕 Key Change in Rules

· Old Rule: vehicles could only be registered outside delhi within one year of purchase, and NOC had to be obtained from delhi RTO within that period.

· New Rule (Effective from october 30, 2025): The one-year limit has been removed.

o Now, even 20-year-old vehicles can be registered outside delhi without restriction.

o Vehicle owners no longer need to worry about the age of the car when applying for a NOC to transfer registration.

 Benefits of the Rule Change

1. Freedom for Vehicle Owners

o Owners can now transfer older vehicles to another state without facing bureaucratic hurdles.

o Reduces legal complications and makes it easier to sell or relocate a vehicle.

2. No Extra Penalty

o Previously, missing the one-year window could lead to penalties or re-registration issues.

o With the new rule, owners can register vehicles freely, irrespective of age.

3. Simplified Documentation

o The process for applying for an NOC remains online and straightforward.

o Required documents include RC book, identity proof, and address proof.

⚠️ Important Note

· While the delhi government has removed the time limit, vehicle owners must still follow the standard NOC procedure and ensure no pending fines or legal issues exist with the vehicle.

· Always check the RTO guidelines of the state where you intend to register the vehicle, as some states may have additional requirements.

This change is a big relief for people who own older cars and are planning to relocate, sell, or register their vehicles outside Delhi.
